Police Minister Fikile Mbalula sent out a strong message to criminals in Vanderbjlpark, where police officers were involved in a tussle with Nigerian nationals.

Mbalula visited the suburb, notoriously known for its drug dens and brothels, as part of SAPS operations and vowed to come down hard on crime in the area.

“There must be peace here. We can’t co-exist with criminality here (Vanderbijlpark),” he said.
“Nigerians are welcome to live in South Africa but if they commit crime – we must run them down.”
Mbalula was also complimentary about police officers’ commitment to what they do, saying it’s a thankless job.
“You’re doing a thankless job and we appreciate what you do. We must jail these criminals,” he said.

The SAPS operation was prompted by an outrage following a video which emerged online showing police officers being put under duress by foreign nationals during a raid in a suspected drug den.
The men are seen charging aggressively at the officers and an apparently deceased man is shown being placed on the ground, following earlier violence.
IOL report that a case of murder and attempted murder have since been open and investigations are currently under way.
Two officers were injured during the incident and are yet to return to duty ever since.
Police have since confirmed that a case of murder and attempted murder have been opened and that investigations were currently under way.
The Minister also urged officers to be vigilant when carrying out raids in places reported to be  drug dens and brothels.
He was speaking alongside acting national police commissioner Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba as well as Emfuleni Mayor, Mahole Mofokeng.
