There
were signs of anger and outrage among residents of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa
state capital following the cutting off of the breast of an 18-year-old
girl by suspected ritualists. The victim, simply identified as Faith
and a native of Epie speaking area of the state,
was reported to have been lured to an hotel along the Biogbolo area of the state capital for a sexual rendezvous with an unidentified man.
It was gathered that later in the night the suspected ritualist, who had lodged in the hotel and requested for female company, cut off the girl's left br*st and left her in her pool of blood. Eyewitness said that the painful scream of the girl attracted staff and other lodgers at the hotel.
The girl was later confirmed dead from excessive bleeding and shock. Some staff of the hotel claimed the suspect was an Igbo man and was lodged without proper documentation and identification as required by law. Another version claimed the girl was allegedly lured to the room of the unknown guest by the hotel owner with N500.
The hotel owner and two other suspects have been arrested by the police. The incident, which occurred on Friday at about 10pm, reportedly led to serious squabble between some residents around the area.Contacted on the development, the state commissioner of police, Mr. Asuquo Mba, confirmed the development but said "Initially it was treated purely as a case of assault occasioned by harm but now that the girl has died we are now treating a case of murder against one suspect.
