Though she was nominated last year 2016 for the award, which was held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, but her absence was due to an official engagement that saw her out of country.
Before presenting the award, Amb. Chris Odey gave her some reasons why she was nominated. He said her outspokenness for the masses (women and youths) are some of the reasons why the organisation deemed it fit to present her with the prestigious award.
Amb. Chris Odey who was joined by Prince Sunny Oseibe, publisher of Hallowmace Magazine, Anthony Ada Abraham, Entertainment and Tourism Editor, LEADERSHIP Newspaper and Queen Genevieve Godwin who is the current Miss Goodwill Ambassador Nigeria, International presented the award to her.
Accepting the awards, Hon. Ukeje particularly pointed out the need for the organisation to focus on a project that will help boost the confident of the Nigerian girl child and enlighten them on the danger of total dependant on men.
She further showed her joy and gratitude to the organisation for finding her worthy and promised to be available at all times to support any of its activities in any capacity she could.
The 2017 Nigeria Goodwill Ambassador Awards is slated for the prestigious Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja on Thursday 1st of June and some of the nominees for the award include Dr Zainab Bagudu and Rashida Yahayah Bello First Ladies of Kebbi and Kogi States respectively.
The event will be anchored by Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar to be co anchored by Philip Renner.
Ukeje’s initial attempt into politics garnered her first election in office in 2007 as the Representative for Bende Federal Constituency, Abia state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She was re-elected in 2011 and also serves as the Chairman for Foreign Affairs Committee.
Ukeje is noted for her stance on diplomatic relations between African nations, particularly after incidents involving Nigerians in Togo and South Africa, respectively. She is also noted for infrastructure improvements in her native Alayi.
