Curtis Belton Is Wanted For Other Related Crimes

www.bola.com reported that a 23-year-old man already wanted by police in connection with several armed robberies, carjackings and a kidnapping is now suspected in a Monday (Jan. 2) night armed robbery in Mid-City, according to the NOPD.

Curtis Belton is accused of holding a 32-year-old woman at gunpoint and demanding money, then fleeing with the victim's cell phone and debit card. Belton used a silver handgun in the robbery, which occurred around 8:50 p.m. in the 2800 block of St. Ann Street, in the Bayou St. John neighborhood, police said.

On Dec. 22, the NOPD said that arrest warrants had been issued for Belton in connection with other violent crimes that occurred in the past two months.

These include:

* A Dec. 20 kidnapping and armed robbery in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Police said Belton held three people hostage at gunpoint and forced them to drive him to various locations to steal money.

* A Dec. 3 armed robbery in the 1200 block of Ferdinand Street, in which Belton is accused of taking the victim's wallet, keys, jewelry and cellphone, police said.

* A Dec. 3 auto theft in the 3100 block of St. Claude Avenue, in which police say Belton approached a ride-share operator parked outside of a store, grabbed the handle of a handgun in his pants pocket and then fled in the victim's vehicle.

* A Nov. 27 armed robbery in the 3600 block of Iberville Street. Investigators believe Belton was one of two men accused of pulling a gun on the victim and stealing his wallet. Belton later made several purchases on the victim's debit card, according to police.

* A Nov. 18 armed robbery and carjacking in the 100 block of South Rendon Street. Police suspect Belton was one of two men who struck a woman's brother, who was outside of her vehicle, before ordering the woman out of her vehicle and then driving away in it.

When found, the NOPD said Belton will be arrested on at least five counts of armed robbery, three counts of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of carjacking, among other charges.
