In view of the forthcoming Supreme Court judgment between governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State and his rival at the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) last governorship primary in the state, Mr. Joe Agi, slated for December 9, 2016, the governor, on Friday,  sought divine intervene,
saying God will not disgrace him out of office.
Ayade spoke at a reception held in his honor at the Margaret Ekpo airport in Calabar, on his way back from Abuja.
The governor, who returned to Calabar after about three weeks sojourn outside the state, was received by his aides, party stalwarts and other well-wishers.
Addressing his supporters, the governor insisted that he was innocent of the case leveled against him, arguing that he was out to serve the masses whole heartedly.
“Let me recall that the people of Cross River State are a patient people, very peaceful people.  We have a heritage that is akin to the people who love each other.
“Never in the history of Cross River State have we had a situation where brothers fight to this extreme level.  Let it be God’s will that he brings peace and unity.  Let God’s judgment prevail.
“I want to encourage you to continue to pray for me because I know that God will not disgrace me out of office.  He is the one who put me there because I told Him that I was withdrawing from the governorship race and that was why I went and bought the form for the Senate.  I wanted to go back to the Senate”, he said.
Ayade said in spite of the state’s meager funding from Abuja, he conceived big projects in order to create employment and diversify the economy.
According to him, “God shall not forsake us at this point.  We take our cry to God because God sees the heart.  When we started, we knew the situation of our people.  I am a child born into poverty, so I understand the circumstances of my people.  I decided to go into the freshest and deepest idea to find a way that we can completely decouple the state from the dependence of federal allocation.”
The governor reiterated his passion for the development of the state, adding that his signature projects were borne out of his love for Cross River and her people.
“It is against that background that we decided to conceive big projects that ordinarily will be beyond the capacity of Cross River State.  But, once God is in front, once God is leading, when you are righteous, God will take control.
“Today, that impossible seaport has been designed and completely restructured to the extent that we have gone more than sixteen meters. The super highway has been completely designed; the route part completely surveyed and fully opened up, just ready for final approval for construction to start,” he added.
