Cattle Rustlers Attack Security Patrol

Suspected cattle rustlers have killed one soldier and injured another during attack on a joint security patrol team at Madaci village of Faskari local government area in Katsina State.

The attack is coming less than two weeks after cattle rustlers killed a police officer,Inspector Sani Muhammad, and seven members of local vigilante group  in the notorious rugu forest at Safana local government of the state.
The soldier was said to have died at the  hospital in Zaria where he was rushed for treatment following wounds sustained  when he was shot on the head by the yet to be identified rustlers.
Confirming the incidence, the Katsina State commissioner of police, Usman Abdullahi, said the joint patrol team was on patrol of the area when the rustlers ambushed them.
Usman said the team received  intelligence report of the rustlers’ hide out and had gone out to raid the hide out but, obviously acting on information about the pending raid by the team, “the rustlers way-laid them  there was an encounter and two soldiers were shot.”
The one with severe situation died at a Hospital in Zaria but the other one is in stable condition”.
He said the police has launched an investigation into the attack with a view to arresting all those involved and noted that the war on cattle rustling was being intensified.
A resident of the community told our correspondent that there was heavy gun battle between the security personnel and the rustlers adding “the thieves appears to have more sophisticated weapons”.
