High court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced one Chief Suanu
Magnus and Ndele Nwielo to death by hanging over the murder of Paul Gum
and John Korsi.
The two accused persons were slammed with two count
charges of murder at Nyorbe Beeri and Nyorgor Beeri in Bori both in
Khana local government area of Rivers State.
The trial judge, Justice S.H Aprioku in his ruling convicted the two accused persons and sentenced them to death by hanging.
Justice Aprioku stated that the evidence before him was a valid proof that the accused persons killed the deceased.
Speaking to newsmen after the judgment, Counsel to the accused persons, Duru Everistus said his clients will appeal the judgement, adding that all the submissions of the defendants were not taken by the court.
“We will take-up the issues on appeal because we believe that our submissions were not all considered. The Judge should have considered them,” Everistus said.
The accused persons have been facing trail since the 22nd of April 2008, after the murder, which happened on 24th of February 2006.
