The Governor of Bauchi State, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi
Abubakar has stated that as a result of the ongoing state-wide
verification exercise in the state, over 19000 ghost workers have been
discovered in the system.
He also added that he had ordered another layer to the verification process such that no employee of the state or local government would be paid in cash, but through bank account with the instrumentality of the Bank Verification Number (BVN).
Governor Abubakar who made this revelations when he spoke to journalists at the weekend in Abuja, said that more revelations are being expected as the exercise progresses.
“I added another aspect to the verification, the BVN. I gave an order that, starting from February, no person who is either an employee of the local government or the state in Bauchi would be paid cash, everybody would be paid through the bank and that person must supply us his or her BVN number.’’
The governor added that to further checkmate unscrupulous elements who may want to subvert the BVN system by submitting fake numbers, he turned all BVNs supplied to a bank and using its CBN platform, the bank would further verify that numbers so supplied adding that it is yielding positive results.
“And I have done that and it is yielding its fruits and people are not even aware that I have not left it at that alone.
‘‘Right now as I am talking to you, someone may go and concoct his own BVN and send it to Bauchi state government thinking that he has scaled through, but what I have done with the BVNs submitted is to give them to a bank and the bank, using the CBN platform, will crosscheck on these BVNs. So I am expecting additional revelation s to come,” the governor said.
