One person, identified as Mr. Ofinjite Amachree, popularly
known as ‘Kalampo’ was on Monday burnt to death during a clash between
supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Buguma, headquarters of Asari-Toru local
government area of Rivers State.
LEADERSHIP could not ascertain the cause of the clash as at the time
of filing this report, it learnt that the incident occurred at the new
Health Centre area built by the immediate past administration of Rt.

Kalampo was identified as a stalwart of the APC
A resident of the Buguma, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “We don’t really know what caused the fight but what we know is that it is a clash between the APC and PDP. There were series of gun shots so we had to take cover in our house. One guy popularly known as Kalampo, who I think is an APC member was killed and burnt. As I speak with you, there is tension in entire community.”
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmad Kadiya Muhammad, who confirmed the incident, said normalcy has returned to the area due to the swift response of security operative that forestalled further breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Chief Felix Obuah, has expressed shock and sadness over the reckless killings in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state.
Obuah, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by his special adviser on Media, Jerry Needam, described the resurgence of killings among his kinsmen as abominable and sheer madness.
He wondered why all the entreaties by the State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to all the warring youths in Omoku during his visit to the area a few weeks ago could be so flagrantly violated as though they gain anything from killing one another.
Describing the weekend onslaught as one too many, he urged the police to beef up security around the area and all parts of the State and further urged them to fish out perpetrators of the heinous acts and bring them to book.
