Man, 28, Docked For Allegedly Defrauding Owner Of N150,000 Gold Necklace


 
A 28-year-old man, Muhammed Saheed, who allegedly obtained a gold- necklace valued at N150,000 from one Olabode Yetunde, under false pretences, on Tuesday appeared before an Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, a resident of Amukoko area of Apapa in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences
.
The prosecutor, Insp. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused committed the offences in February 2015 at No. 75 Gasskiya Road, Amukoko in Apapa.
Inedu said that Saheed obtained a gold necklace valued at N150,000 from the complainant, with a promise to sell and remit the proceeds to her.
He said that the accused sold the necklace, converted the proceeds to his personal use and kept deceiving the complainant.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes a 15-year-jail term for obtaining money under false pretences.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr M.A. Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till March 3 for mention.
