Man, 27, Docked Over Alleged Theft Of Goods Worth N850,000


A 27-year-old man, Bolaji Oyediji, who allegedly broke into the apartment of one Dele Benjamin and stole items valued at N850,000, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Senior Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Oyediji of no fixed address is facing a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simon, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 7 at Plot 74, Shargai Estate, Alimosho, Lagos.
He said that the accused conspired with others now at large and broke into Benjamin’s apartment through the sitting room.

Simon said that the accused and his cohorts stole shoes, wrist watches, clothes, phones and a keyboard all valued at N850, 000.
He said that the accused was apprehended by the complainant’s neighbours, who shouted and notified others that there were thieves in the compound.
“Oyediji was apprehended while his cohorts escaped with the items stolen from the apartment,” Simon said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 285 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three-year jail term for stealing.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Y. R. Pinheiro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned further hearing in the case till Feb. 23.
