4 commuters feared dead in Imo


… As angry mob blames FRSC officials over crash

Four passengers were feared dead while several others sustained various degrees of injuries in a fatal road crash yesterday along Owerri /Aba Express way, close to the Nekede mechanic village on the outskirts of the Imo State capital.
This was just as irate mob who had tried to attack officials of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) allegedly accused of causing the accident, were dispersed by the combined team of armed officers of the  Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

An eye witness said the accident, which occurred Tuesday morning, was alleged to have been caused by officials of Federal Road Safety Commission when they flagged down a commuter bus and that when the driver stopped, and moved, having been permitted to go before one FRSC official allegedly had jumped into driver’s side and struggled with the driver for control of the vehicle.
It was further gathered that in the process, the bus skidded off the road median and collided with another bus coming from the Aba end of the road.
When Daily Sun visited the scene, an angry mob were being dispersed by the combined armed personnel of the NSCDC and NDLEA from attacking the FRSC officials.
However, corpses and those who sustained serious injuries were said to have been taken to a nearby mortuary and hospitals respectively.
But, when contacted, FRSC Deputy Sector Commander, Chris Anabor, who said nobody died in the accident and that what caused the accident was the recklessness of the driver of the bus. He insisted his men did not cause the accident.
