Troops of 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under sector 3, Operation Pulo Shield, have arrested a suspected oil thief with 70 drums of 200 litres of Automotive Gas and Oil (AGO) in Cross River State.
In a press release from the Brigade headquarters in Calabar, signed by its Public Relations Officer, Captain K.O. Owolabi, the suspect, Louis Ekwuazi, was arrested yesterday in the Calabar south area of the state.
The suspect, according to the release, was also caught with 70 empty drums of 200-litre drums, one 80 horsepower out-boat engine as well as 5 pumping machines.
Consequently, the Commander, 13 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Sani Mohammed has warned members of the public against acts capable of undermining the security and economy of the nation, adding that it is no longer business as usual.
He advised law abiding citizens to report any criminal activity in their area to the 13 Brigade or any security agency nearest to them.
“In line with the directives of the Commander, Operation Pulo Shield (OP Pulo Shield), Major Gen. Alani Okunlola to rid Niger Delta and its environs of criminal activities, troops of the 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have arrested one Mr. Louis Ekwuazi, a suspected oil thief in Calabar South Local Government Area.
The suspect, who alongside his tools of operation are currently in the custody of 13 Brigade pending investigation, would be handed over to the police authority soon, the statement added.
