Police Arrest Physically Challenged Man, 4 Others for Kidnapping in Akwa Ibom


Two persons, Promise Akpan and Aniefiok Peter, have been rescued by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command from some suspected kidnappers and their abductors apprehended.
The duo who were kidnapped from their houses at Enen Ikot Etim village in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the state, were reportedly kept in the bush for six days by their abductors.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP, Murtala Mani, while parading the suspects on Tuesday in Uyo, said the suspected kidnappers were arrested following a request from the victims’ families for them to come for the balance of the ransom.
The CP stated that one locally-made pistol and other weapons were recovered from the suspects who owned up to the crime after interrogation.
Mani gave the names of the suspects as: Lucky Akpan, Ndiana Akpan, Uwah Emediong, Udeme Akpan and one Ikotedem Sampson, a physically challenged man.
The police boss said they were picked up from Oruk Anam, except Sampson who was arrested at Ukanafun.
According to report, the suspects were said to have demanded N5m from their victim’s families but they were reportedly given N170, 000 as ransom.
