From Molly Kilete, Abuja
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), yesterday alerted the public of a new trend whereby Boko Haram terrorists disguise as mad men to carry out their attack.
The acting director, Defence Information, Brigadier-General Abubakar Rabe, who gave the warning in a statement issued in Abuja, said the terrorists feign insanity to gain access to public areas to detonate Improvised
Explosive Device (IED), which they usually strap to their bodies.
He attributed Friday’s attack on Gombi in Adamawa State, that resulted in the death of 10 persons and left several others injured, to two male suicide bombers who dressed like mad women and called on members of the public to be extra vigilant.
Rabe, while calling on the public to be wary of mad persons who are trying to gain access to churches, mosques, markets, public places or crowded areas with a view to carry out their attacks, equally urged them to be security conscious at all times and report any suspicious person or object
to security agencies for prompt action.
The Defence spokesman in the statement made available to Sunday Sun, said: “It has come to the notice of the Defence Headquarters that Boko Haram, in their desperation to cause colossal havoc, have now devised a new method where they dress like mad persons to gain access to public areas to detonate bombs.
“The Defence Headquarters therefore urges our fellow good citizens across the country to be wary of mad persons approaching markets, public places or crowded areas so as to nip this ugly trend in the bud.”
