How four suspected kidnappers were arrested in Enugu, Lagos
ENUGU – The police, yesterday, arrested four suspected kidnappers from various hideouts in Enugu and Lagos States.
Those arrested by the operatives of the Anti-kidnap unit are Ekene Nwakwo from Okposi in Ebonyi state but staying in Fijiso, Epe, Lagos and 9th mile corner respectively, Emeka Igwe from Awka Etiti as well as Chidi Agu.
According to police sources, the suspects allegedly conspired together with one Ebuka from Ameke Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of the state and abducted one Ekene Nwankwo from Affa in Udi, who later died in the process.
Late Nwankwo was returning from a traditional marriage ceremony on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at about by 5pm when he was kidnapped.
It was gathered that the victim was taken to a nearby bush by old Nsukka-Abor – 9th Mile Corner Road and kept there for seven days while the suspects demanded N10 million ransom from his relations.
However, on noticing that their victim had died, they abandoned the corpse and fled.
According to one of the suspects who was wounded in the process of effecting his arrest, it was their burning desire to make quick money that landed them into trouble as they had to use any means to meet up with their native doctors demand.
The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed the arrests, said the corpse of the victim had been recovered and deposited at a nearby hospital while full scale investigations has commenced.
