NSCDC Prosecutes 8 Pipeline Vandals In Kaduna
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna Command, says it is currently prosecuting eight suspected pipeline vandals in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Mr Orndiir Tezungwe, disclosed this on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.
He said the eight accused persons, currently standing trial in the court, were arrested in Igabi and Chikun local government areas of the state.
The spokesman also said that six other vandals had been convicted after they were found guilty by a court in Kaduna.
“Three of the convicts were apprehended at Unguwar Sauri while the other three were arrested at Kangimi while vandalising NNPC pipelines,” he said.
Tezungwe said that the command had carried out series of sensitisation campaigns in communities known for pipeline vandalism, particularly in Kaduna North, Igabi and Chikun Local Government areas.
“We focus on drawing their attention to the economic implications of their action on ordinary Nigerians and the penalties for such act,” he said.
Tezungwe also said the command was collaborating with the Department of Petroleum Resources to monitor fuel stations selling above the stipulated pump price of N87 per litre.
“In this regard, five filling stations in Kaduna dispensing fuel above the official price of N87 per litre have been shut down.
“We have also arrested two suspected car snatchers; a notorious hard drug dealer and one other person in possession of a pistol,” he said. (NAN)
