Gunmen abduct clergyman, demand N6m as ransom in Rivers

UNIDENTIFIED gunmen, last weekend, abducted a pastor at Rumuji in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The clergyman, Pastor Peter, who also deals in phone accessories, was accosted around 8pm last Friday and taken away to an unknown destination at gunpoint.
A source who related the incident to Vanguard, disclosed that the clergyman was just returning from his business when the strange visitors invaded and took him away.
The source said before the armed men kidnapped their victim, they harassed everyone around the residence and took all their phones.
It also disclosed that so far, the relatives of the victim had established contact with the kidnappers, disclosing that the kidnappers were demanding N6 million ransom to grant him freedom.
Meanwhile, the police have said they raided a suspected kidnappers’ hide out in Emohua Local Government Area.
The men of the police force stormed a tick forest at the boundary between Ndele and Rumuekpe communities based on intelligence gathering and raided the safe haven for criminal gangs.
Ndele of recent had been in the front burner of kidnap and criminal activities.
Recall that last month, five teachers were abducted from Rundele secondary school and are yet to be released.
A senior police officer in the area disclosed that they arrested a native doctor suspected to be the person who made charms for the boys that had been terrorizing the area.
It also said some charms already prepared were also confiscated during the operation that lasted about two hours.
