Akure — DETECTIVES in Ondo State have arrested a quack nurse over the death of a mother of twins after delivery at Ile-Oluji area of the state.
The suspect, whose name the police declined to give, is being quizzed by operatives of the Criminal Investigations Department of the state police command.
Vanguard gathered that the deceased, identified as Ayo, approached the nurse who works in a private clinic when she was about to put to bed.
Instead of referring the pregnant woman to qualified nurses, the suspect decided to take the delivery in a private hospital identified as Miracle Centre Medical Clinic at Bamikemo village in Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area of the state.
It was learned that the nurse actually delivered the woman of a set of twins, only for complications to set in which she could not manage.
The deceased, after the delivery, reportedly became unconscious and efforts to revive her proved abortive.
She later died, leaving behind her set of twins.
The family of the deceased reportedly raised alarm and this led to invitation of the Police who later whisked away the suspect to the police station.
She was said to have confessed that she decided to help the woman during labour as there was no qualified nurse to help.
The corpse of the deceased was said to have been deposited at the state General Hospital, Ile Oluji.
Police spokesman, Femi Joseph, confirmed that the deceased died as a result of complications after delivery.
“When the woman was about putting to bed, the nurse offered to take the delivery, knowing fully well that she does not have the professional qualification to do that and in the process, complications arose which led to her death.” he said.
Joseph, who noted that the suspects was in their custody, said the case was being handled by the State Criminal Investigative Department of the state police command.
