"Killers of my son threatening my life" - father of slain apprentice cries out

FROM SEGUN OLATUNJI, ABEOKUTA
The father of the 25-year-old apprentice refrigerator technician, Sunday Adefuye, who was allegedly shot dead on August 5 at Ogba-Ayo in Ijoko-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State by some suspected hoodlums over the lingering chieftaincy crisis in the town, has cried out to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, the state and the federal governments to urgently bring the killers of his son to book.
Mutiu Adefuye yesterday raised the alarm that the suspected killers of his son, loyal to the rival claimant to the throne of the Onijoko, Oba Lasisi Ogunseye, had been walking freely and threatening him and members of his family as well as a friend of his late son, Olamilekan Oladitan who was also allegedly shot along with his late son but narrowly escaped death during last month’s violent attack.
Adefuye, who claimed to have petitioned the assistant inspector general of police, Zone II, Onikan, Lagos and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulamjid Ali wondered why a murder suspect would be granted bail by the police.
He, therefore, appealed to the inspector general of police, the state and federal governments that the suspected killers of his son should not be allowed to go scot-free.
Only last Saturday, the police in Oko-Oba, Lagos arrested Mohammed Ogunseye alleged to have led the suspects who shot dead Adefuye’s son and handed him over to the operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ogun State Police Command who detained him at its Eleweran, Abeokuta headquarters briefly. Ogunseye was, however, released on bail by the police on Wednesday.
Already, the police have arraigned a 24-year-old man, Idris Adejumo, alias Aloma for the alleged murder of Adefuye’s son in collaboration with others still at large. Aloma is currently being remanded in Oba Prison over the matter.
The lingering violent rivalry between Oba Alani Matanmi and Oba Lasisi Ogunseye over the Onijoko of Ijoko Ota stool has claimed no fewer than 40 lives in the past eight years, while property worth hundreds of millions of naira had also been destroyed.
The 51-year-old distraught father of the victim, however, alleged at a press conference in Abeokuta that Oba Ogunseye’s son, who after his initial detention by the police had since returned to Ijoko, had been boasting that the masterminds of his arrest should stop bothering themselves because he had the financial wherewithal to always buy his freedom.
Adefuye said: “I’m the father of Sunday Adefuye who was killed by the sons of Ogunseye and their accomplices in Ijoko last August 5. What I want is that Nigerians should not watch and allow the murderers of my son to go scot-free. They killed my son like a chicken.
He was coming from my house with his friends when they were attacked by the suspects who shot him dead. My son and his friends were riding on a motorcycle when the gang members driving in a CRV jeep shot at them.”
