A pregnant nurse residing at Ozigbo Street, Nkpor, Idemili
North local government, Anambra State during the weekend escaped lynching by
an angry mob after she attacked her housemaid with razor blade.
Eye witness account told Daily
Sun that the woman attacked the housemaid with razor blade for daring
to take food after cooking without her permission, thereby inflicting serious
injuries on her face, buttock and other parts of her body.
It was the cries of the maid
identified as Chinaza from Imo State that attracted a primary school teacher
who rushed to the scene and raised an alarm which attracted other people in the
neighborhood.
Women in the area quickly mobilized
and vowed to deal with the nurse whom they described as callous and heartless
for having the heart to treat another woman’s child in that way while she also
had two children and expecting another baby.
It was the vigilante group operating
in the area that rescued the woman and detained her in their office before
alerting the guardian of the battered maid.
Things took another dimension when
the guardian who handed over the maid to the nurse instead of reporting the
case to the police said that it was a family matter.
He reportedly demanded the sum of
N50, 000 from the nurse for the medical treatment of the maid.
When the reporter visited the area
yesterday, sources said the nurse has gone into hiding while the guardian to
the maid has taken her to their hometown.
A member of the vigilante whom the
reporter met at the office confirmed the incident but said that their commander
was not around to give further details on the matter.
He said that he is from Calabar and
doesn’t understand Igbo language which the actors in the matter used to speak
while the woman and the maid were brought into their office.
